definitely the best place to spend the summer
I am WELL overdue.. I know… I know..
We have been working, catching fish, shooting bows, playing with dogs, relaxing on the back porch, and now taking care of the newest addition to the family, well maybe not SO new.. I have been taking care of him since he was born.
his name is Peanut
He is so loving, so calm, so laid back and I am so glad he is part of our family now. I love him.
Todays hunt was …. um…. AWESOME! Although, we didn’t leave with a dead bird it was the most exciting hunt yet! I think we may be obsessed with huntin turkeys now.. yea, uh huh we are. If I told the story how I wanted to tell it then you would probably quit reading by the 36th paragraph. I will try to make it as short as I can.
John, a buddy of ours who is an avid turkey hunter has been a HUGE help to us. He has been teaching us how to sprint of hills to chase a gobbling turkey and how to run through thick, nasty Alabama woods.. ok not really. We respect him as a turkey hunter and we have been trying to learn as much as we can.
To the hunt..
This morning it was ON ON ON! We had turkeys gobbling this way, that way, down that ridge, up that hill and way out yonder. Get the picture? We rush to get set up on the edge of this clear cut on the one that was the closest.. we sit and call and wait and call and sit and while my anxiety is building and my hands start shaking, John is motioning to me that he is coming on in! While I’m in deep concentration on being still, I hear some gobbling behind us getting closer and closer not being anywhere near ready to take a shot on a turkey from behind, Zac hustles to get set up facing the other direction. We now have three different gobblers gobbling and coming in closer and closer. I am now concentrating on NOT peeing on myself and trying to keep it together so I can blow a head off. I hear Zac whispering and then I hear the famous words….. SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT IT …. gobble, gobble, gobb—BOOM! It sounds good don’t it? Well .. not so much. Zac’s hot breath fogged up the scope but he managed to find the ol’ blue head and right when he went to pull the trigger the bird let out a love call.. and well.. he missed.
It gets better .. I went out to tell Zac how ok it is, how it happens, you know.. being a supportive wife but after a double take on his forehead all I could do is laugh.. that’s right shug got his but kicked by 3 1/2 inch nitro turkey killing machine. Makes a good story right? Oh and John was filming for us and we figured the turkey in front of me would come out first so he didn’t have time to turn the camera around but we have it on audio! YES!
I was curious to how it would feel shooting turkey load out of Zac’s 870 ….. don’t think I wanna do it again!
I’m blessed and I know I’m blessed, so many times I just feel I need this.. want that…why.. why.. why.. and I feel things aren’t fair and then God just puts things in perspective for me and I realize JUST how much I have. I am so unbelievably thankful for my amazing family, all the people who I can call a friend, my truest best friend Zac, everything that is happening in our lives.. some just coming slow, some happening so fast. I know as soon as I think I have it figured out another door opens or a door closes.. either way, I’m good because I know who holds the will of our life.
I am so excited about this year. I just have this joy about life where I want to live it to the fullest and with our 1,010 hobbies, that is pretty easy to do. We will be going to Illinois in May (anniversary month, woop woop) to the Campbell Cameras videography school, Ohio this summer (hopefully) with good ol’ Chuck, maybe some bear hunting (insert scary face here) with good ol’ Hank.. every time I mention that to my mom it makes her cringe!! The list of places just goes on and on. Way too much to be excited about. I am beyond excited to share these experiences with the perfect person! So Lord, thank you!
I realize I am way overdue for an update on our life! I will try not to make it too long and boring.. last weekend we went to Wetumpka to shoot our first IBO shoot, and it was a blast! I loved every part of it! From meeting new people, to trying something new, to being out in the woods with my husband doing something we love, it was something I can see us doing as long as we are able to pull back a bow. Zac and I both left motivated to be better. I’m so glad Chuck.. (hmm maybe we will call him “coach” Chuck)got to come and check out where us hillbilly Alabamaians live, and it was so much fun catching up with him and he even bought us ice cream! :) Turkey season is right around the corner but until then we will be slingin’ arrows.. or should I say breakin’ arrows!
We are absolutely loving our Carbon Tech bows and arrows! I will say this .. the arrows fly a little too straight! ;)
Now that deer season is over, me and Zac have just been sitting on the couch eating chips and ice cream …. ok not really. We are actually about to get even more busy, I know.. what could be more busy than deer season? I’ll tell ya! Archery tournaments that involve us shooting our bows EVERY single day over and over and over and over .. get the point? Next is bird huntin’, got to get our dogs out to the woods or to a field and let em’ hunt! Speaking of bird huntin’ .. we still have 2 absolutely adorable, way too loving, need a WONDERFUL home, bird dogs for sell! After we kill some birds we are out to do some more bird huntin’, a much larger bird. That’s right, some Alabama Gobblers. Hmm.. oh yea and I might get certified to be a personal trainer. Thats all.
